Ellen Seifert

Ellen Seifert joined the MOSAIC group as a PhD student in November 2025. She is from Germany.

Ellen completed her B.Sc. in Computer Science at the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg, where she developed an interest in machine learning and computer vision. For her Bachelor’s thesis, she used Spherical CNNs for model output statistics in precipitation prediction. She then pursued her Master’s in Computational Modeling and Simulation at TU Dresden, specializing in Visual Computing. She gained research experience through projects in the MOSAIC group, working with microscopy images, image segmentation, and feature extraction.

For her Master’s thesis, Ellen worked under the supervision of Prof. Ivo Sbalzarini on Task-Adaptive Subsampling of Point Clouds, investigating the use of genetic algorithms to optimize point selection for downstream machine-learning tasks without making prior assumptions about point relevance. During her Master’s studies, Ellen was awarded an Excellence Scholarship by the School of Embedded Composite Artificial Intelligence (SECAI).

For her PhD project in our group, Ellen works on learning representations of dynamic point clouds, combining approaches from differential geometry, information theory, and machine learning.
